Since the federal government has prevented labeling (with legislation that overrides any local or state labeling laws) of genetically modified organisms (GMOs), also known as food, it is really hard to know if you are eating GMOs in your diet.
Almost nine years ago, Maria Gallagher wrote in the June 26, 2002 issue of the Philadelphia Inquirer newspaper about the PLU stickers on fresh produce that tells if it is conventional, organic or GMO. Look for the labels (stickers) stuck on your fruits and veggies:
A four-digit number means it’s conventionally grown.
A five-digit number beginning with 9 means it’s organic.
A five-digit number beginning with 8 means it’s GM.
The numeric system was developed by the Produce Electronic Identification Board, an affiliate of the Produce Marketing Association, a Newark, Delaware-based trade group for the produce industry. As of

At the Kitchen & Bath Industry Show (KBIS) in Las Vegas last week I had the feeling I was watching a market in transition. Overall, I saw an emphasis on new ways to deliver products and product information such as  via Ipad aps  but  fewer new introductions and exhibitors. Here’s what caught my eye.

This  “Image-in Motif” tub from Wetstyle.CA , a Canadian firm, is seductive. The calligraphy pattern is part of the design. I like the Zen-like simplicity of the oval shape (also available without the lettering), which would be a nice upgrade for my bathroom!

For something a little different in the bathroom, especially for the younger set, how about turning your tub into a fire truck. Perhaps something Salvador Dali might appreciate…It’s possible with American Standard’s FunBath Temporary Bath Conversion. The solid molde

With practice, this repair can be perfect Q. Money is very tight and I just cant afford to hire a plumber to install new water supply lines in my home. Ive seen the PEX plumbing tubing and feel its the way to go, as there are no soldered joints hidden in the walls. Is it hard to install PEX? Am I crazy to think that I can be successful doing this?

This photo shows two PEX plumbing lines feeding into a tub/shower faucet. Note the stiff copper lines that send water to the showerhead and the tub spigot.
First, understand that some cities and towns dont allow unlicensed people to work on the potable water supply systems in their homes. Ke Read more…

I was just logging into Etsy to grab some images from a shop I’d “hearted” earlier today, when a picture of this mobile on the front page stopped me short. So long, whatever it was I was going to write about… hello, tiny paper houses.

I’m in love. It’s beautiful, simple art that is also low-impact. Just paper and string, it has a big presence—I’m sure it looks amazing in person—and at the end of its life, this lovely object can simply be placed in the recycling bin. Hooray for simplicity. And for tiny paper houses.
