Mattress Pads & Pillows Can Grow Microbes In Dorms, Study Says

A study conducted in Florida has discovered that thousands of microbes, fungi, molds and other bacteria can grow in pillows and mattress pads in college dormitories.

The study has also revealed that college mens bedding are twice as likely to be more infested, with yeast and mold ever present in more than half the subjects tested. Mattress pads, on the other hand, have four times more infestation than pillows.

And its something that students at university dont really think about.

With so many activities and school work to do, bedding cleanliness is less of a priority. And dormitories are filled with people coming in and out of each others bedroom, as well as doing stuff that has less to do with actual sleeping (like eating or drinking booze and chips on the bed).

There is a risk here because students are sleeping with bacteria that may likely cause or trigger health problems at a later age. This is something that parents of incoming college kids must discuss with their daughter or son to take bedding, cleanliness of the sleep area and sleep habits more seriously.

How often did you have your bedding washed while you were in college? Did you have extra sheets to replace the one you take to laundry? How careful are you with keeping your sleep area clean
