Perhaps its only the filthy rich who can understand why this mattress has to have Swarovski Crystals in it. Yes, this Black Bed by Simmons, which is part of their Beautyrest line, has been infused with Swarovski Crystals on the base of the mattress, as well as the sides.
The Swarovski does nothing in terms of comfort or restful sleep. But aesthetically, it improves the beds luxurious look and design.
Dean Rope, a designer based in Auckland, is the person behind this model. The crystals are apparently fitted by hand on to the mattress. The work is tedious and in fact, it takes 300 hours to finish one mattress.
The bed, which has been on display in New Zealand, also comes with advanced memory foam, anti-fungal latex, woven springs, as well as a fabric covering that is made from alpaca fibers. The foam, by the way, has been pre-crushed many times before its finalized. Pre-crushing reduces its tendency to leave body impressions on the mattress.
In total, the king size version comes up to $16,500. There is an option to put black leather on to it, if the customer would like that.
