Awarded British Design of the Year 2009, Heavy Desk Light is a progression from the suspension series that is the culmination of innovative manufacture, visual simplicity and the desire to challenge perception of materials.

If the water begins to seep into your basement, you will have to face costly repairs and damage which reduces the value of your property by thousands of dollars.

Mold begins to form, when there is a constant source of high temperature and humidity to grow and thrive. Though waterproofing your basement will not fully eliminate the risk of mold, when the drops or leaks are detected and repaired quickly by a competent Toronto plumbing contractor, the risk is significantly reduced. They even help you with your water heater. They can install, replace and repair water heaters.

There are several things to consider when finding a plumbing contractor. Mostly you just make sure it is a reputable company with qualified specialist who can solve all the problems effectively.

Waterproofing Toronto is more useful when performed in using a system of water drainage combined with repair leaks and holes and the use of impermeable elements.

Some owners have their basements waterproofed following the construction completion of their house, but there are some owners who decide to wait to waterproof their basement for a reason, whether cost, time or money. Read more…

Ask the master gardeners

Q: What can I grow to keep weeds out?

A: Just when it seems its the worst time of year to be out working in the garden, weeds are all over the place and so difficult to deal with in the August heat. To help keep them at bay, a low-growing groundcover just might be the answer.

A good one to try is a hardy ice plant thats known botanically as Delosperma nubigenum Lesoltho. Its species name translates to of the clouds and ice plant refers to either its growth, which appears like little upside-down icicles, or the silvery dots that cover the leaves.

D. nubigenum is a succulent perennial thats like sedum. It has bright green shiny leaves that turn a deep purple/red in winter. It will bloom all summer, with iridescent yellow daisylike flowers, and then go dormant in winter.

It is a low-growing ground cover thats drought tolerant and hardy in USDA Zones 4 and 5.

Teknion is yet another manufacturer well known for its office furniture that also crafts items that can shine in a home setting. Here are a few of the designs you might see in the commercial or residential arena:

Occasional Tables

Dakar is just one of several models created for use as corner tables or coffee tables. This walnut, cherry, or maple veneered built up top with self-edge detail works in a lobby or an entryway. A few weeks ago we were offered a free Caroma Flow Shower head to try and review.

So, we had our occasional product tester, Harvey, install and try out this new water saving shower head and report back to us.

This water saving product is sold world wide at plumbing and bathroom fixtures supply stores.

Water Savings Shower Head

According to the manufacturer, the Caroma Flow Showerhead provides  a nominal flow rate of 1.5gpm/5.7L at 80 psi, providing a saving up to 10 gallons more water than the standard 2.5gpm shower head for a 10-minute shower.

There are two flow settings; a more narrow concentrated spray rinse flow with heavier droplets and a wider spray flow for greater surface coverage.

Caroma Flow Shower Head Installation

Of course, before you can use the Caroma Flow Shower Head you have to install it, right? How hard is that?

It is a two step process, according to the installation instructions which come with the showerhead.

Step 1 Remove the old showerhead, shown in the picture below.

It’s for good reason that this delightful room designed by David Kleinberg and photographed by Eric Piasecki that was featured in Architectural Digest has been shown all over blogland and Pinterest! Honestly I have to say this is one of my favorite images I’ve ever seen. Maybe because my first love in life was a plump Siamese cat, aptly named Cat…and then my Siamese cats Mouse, Scamp, Gizmo, Shiva and now currently Kismet. (We also have an orange and white cat Spencer, whom I love dearly.) Then add in the fact that long ago when I first discovered my fondness for turquoise, I found it even more favorable when paired with lime green. So there you have it. I’d stare all day at this photo and it would still bring me so much joy. I’m pretty sure I need the bedding from Leontine Linens pronto. However it’s the fabulous Paradise Garden toile from Quadrille on the duvet and walls that is the true darling here! Read more…
